Saint Chinian
Chateau Bousquette
-- $17.99
-- The vineyards of Château Bousquette, a 50 acre family estate, drape over the craggy hillsides of a small town called Cessenon, only 30 miles inland from the Mediterranean in the South of France. "Bousquette" (pronounced boo-sket) in French means thicket or grove. The word aptly describes the property: a simple family estate nestled in pine trees, lavender and thyme, overlooking miles of vineyards stretching all the way to the foot of the volcanic mountains, the Cévennes. The vineyards are moderated by the cooling breezes from the sea, giving the grapes a long, even growing season. After a 10 day maceration period, the new wine is racked and pressed into large barrels and aged for about 18 months. The result is a dry, Rhône-style wine that is typical of southern France. Aromas of berry, leather and spice. Very smooth and mouth-filling flavors of ripe plums and black cherry fruit. Warm tannins and a lingering, smooth finish.AOC Saint-Chinian; 35% Grenache, 30% Carignan, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre. . . .

Gamay Beaujolais
Chateau de Boisfranc
-- $15.99
-- Château de Boisfranc is located on the plateau of Jarnioux in the heart of the Beaujolais region of Eastern France. Here, the Gamay grape reigns supreme. It is made into a popular "nouveau" wine each November and flown quickly to the U.S. for celebrations around Thanksgiving. In France, the region's nouveau wine traditionally was shipped to Paris bistros each fall, where it was enjoyed as a light quaffing wine to celebrate the new vintage.Gamay's ripe, sensuous fruit flavors make it an ideal nouveau wine, but it also can be made into a heartier springtime wine to enjoy for 1-2 years after bottling, when it is at its peak of freshness and flavor.Thierry Doat has taken over this estate from his father Robert. Both men began conversion to organic agriculture in 1982. Today, the estate vineyards carry the certification of Biofranc and Ecocert, two French organizations that support organic farmers.Château de Boisfranc's vines are close to 60 years old and produce less than younger vines, but . . .
