Guy Chaumont produces wines from vineyards on the Côte Chalonnaise, a low ridge in the southern part of France’s famous Burgundy region. Côte Chalonnaise now merits its own appellation to distinguish these wines from other Burgundys.
The Chaumont eight acre estate is quite small, like many local vineyards. Guy took over seventeen years ago from his father, who had converted to organic growing ten years earlier out of concern for the family’s health. Their vineyard is certified organic by Ecocert, one of the official certifying agencies. Grapes are fertilized and protected from pests naturally, without synthetic chemical sprays.
This wine is a classic white burgundy with rich, buttery apple and melon fruit and a long smooth finish. Aged in old and new oak.

Bodegas Navarrsotillo -- Made from a special selection of older vines and matured in american and french oak for 4-6 mos, this wine displays deep cherry hues with hints of burgundy. A complex aroma of red fruits with a bit of licorice influence from oak aging, it is excellent and smooth on the palate. A more serious red than the younger and simpler Noemus from this pioneer organic winery in Rioja. Spain deserves some recognition for a long tradition of heart warming wines now elaborated in high tech facilities. The result is convincing.
