BORDER=0 HSPACE=10> The vineyards of Château Bousquette, a 50 acre family estate, drape over the craggy hillsides of a small town called Cessenon, only 30 miles inland from the Mediterranean in the South of France. "Bousquette" (pronounced boo-sket) in French means thicket or grove. The word aptly describes the property: a simple family estate nestled in pine trees, lavender and thyme, overlooking miles of vineyards stretching all the way to the foot of the volcanic mountains, the Cévennes. The vineyards are moderated by the cooling breezes from the sea, giving the grapes a long, even growing season. After a 10 day maceration period, the new wine is racked and pressed into large barrels and aged for about 18 months. The result is a dry, Rhône-style wine that is typical of southern France. Aromas of berry, leather and spice. Very smooth and mouth-filling flavors of ripe plums and black cherry fruit. Warm tannins and a lingering, smooth finish. The health and richness of their wines, and the vines where they come from, reflect the decades of biological activity maintained in their soils. Francoise has been managing the family estate and all winemaking with a palate educated since childhood. The 2003 vintage is a blend of 70% Grenache, 10% each Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Grenache expresses much of the flavor and body common to Languedoc red wines. Merlot and Cabernet add finesse and ripe fruit flavors.
